Enrichment Opportunities

Character Curriculum - Growing Up Great

During their time at Halsnead Primary School, children will take part in many wonderful experiences, all planned to help you them to develop their character. Their time at school will help them to develop characteristics, values and life skills that will equip them now and in the future and enable them to reach their own personal excellence. We want all children to believe in themselves, to have ambition and be the best that they can be. We believe that If children have high aspirations for their future, with work hard and resilience they will succeed.

Our Growing Up Great curriculum is a planned character curriculum for children in all year groups. Please see our character curriculum intent document for further information. All children receive a character curriculum journal (see below), where they will record all of their experience and learning throughout their time at Halsnead.

Forest School

Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a natural environment.  It is a learning approach that sits within and complements the wider context of outdoor education.

All our Forest School participants are viewed as:

  • equal, unique and valuable
  • competent to explore & discover
  • entitled to experience appropriate risk and challenge
  • entitled to choose, and to initiate and drive their own learning and development
  • entitled to experience regular success
  • entitled to develop positive relationships with themselves and other people
  • entitled to develop a strong, positive relationship with their natural world

This learner-centred approach interweaves with the ever-changing moods and marvels, potential and challenges of the natural world through the seasons to fill each of our Forest School sessions with discovery and difference. Yet each session does also share a common set of principles - all aimed at ensuring that our pupils experience the cumulative and lasting benefits that a quality Forest School environment offers.

At Halsnead Primary School we offer Forest School sessions to all year groups. Current sessions are outlined in the attached plan below.

Extra-Curricular

Extra-curricular is so important to us at Halsnead. We encourage all children to attend a range of before and after school clubs, from gardening club, to cross-stitch club and much more. We also offer a wide range of sports clubs for all year groups.

Clubs take place before school (8.15am - 8.50am) or after school (3.10pm - 4.00pm).
