Risk assessments – beginning and end of the school day

We have detailed risk assessments that form the basis of our operations for the beginning and end of the school day. Safeguarding is our first priority and we always look for a parent, carer or responsible adult before releasing children out of the school building. This can result in pupils not immediately being released and we, therefore, ask parents and carers to be mindful of this when planning timings to be off the school site.

KS1 and KS2 Breakfast and After School Club

Our breakfast and after school provision is run by KABs (Kids Activities and Bootcamps). For a small charge, children can take part in fun activities and team building games before and after school. They receive a snack and a drink and can play structured games before and after school. Please talk to the school office if you are interested.

Kabs Fitness – Kids Activities & Bootamps (kabs-fitness.co.uk)

EYFS breakfast and After School Club (Nursery and Reception)

Children in EYFS can come to breakfast and after school club for a small charge. Children will receive a snack and a drink and will take part in games and activities. Please talk to the school office if you are interested in this service.

Access to School

All children and parents can enter the school through our main gate on Penneywood Drive or our pedestrian gate on Dragon Lane.  Under no circumstance are parents and carers allowed to drive onto the school site during morning drop off (8.30am - 9.00am) and afternoon pick up (2.50pm - 3.30pm).

Children should not arrive at school before 8.35 a.m. unless they are taking part in breakfast club. Children will line up on their playground at 8.45am and a teacher will lead them into school. Attendance registers are taken promptly.

Absence Procedure

If your child is ill, please telephone the school office on the day of their absence before 9.00 a.m. Please follow this up with a letter to your child’s class teacher.

Children may not take holidays in term time under any circumstances. This will result in a fine, in line with Knowsley Education Policy.

The school monitors attendance daily and parents are contacted when a child’s attendance falls below 95%.

Our Education Welfare Officer asks for the names of children whose attendance falls below 90% and follows up on such cases.

Punctuality

Good attendance and punctuality are important at Halsnead.  Children should be settled in class at 8.50 a.m. when the register will be taken. Children arriving after this time will be marked late.  We are legally required to give the names of children who are persistently late to the Education Welfare Service.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

We run a wide variety of extracurricular clubs, details of which are circulated at the start of every half-term. These clubs can take place before and after school. Most after school clubs finish at 4.00 p.m.
